Established in July 2001, the Lion’s Head Mountain Visitor Center was originally the site of the Shishan Elementary School with classrooms being its main architecture and the current parking space being the former track-and-field, and the original medical care room now turned into an ecology classroom. The Center, located at approx. 5.5K on the Hsinchu Highway 41, offers travel information, guided tour, and multimedia services, along with Hakka Lei Tea for visitors to sample and to get to know alternative tea-drinking culture. The adjacent Xiexin Tea House was originally the school teachers’ dormitory, later rebuilt as a leisurely space for Hakka food and refreshments. In April and May, tung tree flowers on the left side of the Tea House are in full bloom conjuring up a snowy white scene, extremely romantic.
