Description

The construction of the Taipei City Public Auditorium, later renamed as Taipei Zhongshan Hall, was completed in 1936 with an overall magnificent, classic and elegant design, serving as an ideal stage for large-scaled civil activities and art & cultural performances at the time. In 1992, it was designated by the Ministry of the Interior as a Class-Two Historical Site, and in 1997 was listed as Municipality-designated Ancient Monument, based on the amended Cultural Heritage Preservation Act. With a history of 80 years, Taipei Zhongshan Hall is still exuding passion and vitality. Every year, the Zhongzheng Auditorium and the Guangfu Auditorium still host up to 40 performances from the likes of the Film Festival, Art Festival, Traditional Art Festival and Jazz Music Festival. Besides being a venue for performance art, the Zhongshan Hall has now also opened up its Fortress Auditorium on the 2nd floor, Taipei Academy on the 3rd floor and Theatre café on the 4th floor, each with unique ambience formed by the spatial characteristics. Seminars, courses and exhibitions are being held aperiodically and attract the participation of the general public. The Zhongshan Hall has become an educational, recreational venue for both adults and children alike.
